What It Takes to Be a Best Places to Work Organization

///

Modern Healthcare just released its 2024 Best Places to Work in Healthcare List. We were so pleased that three Healthcare Plus Solutions Group® (HPSG) partners—Floyd Lee LocumsAramark Healthcare+, and CCM Health—landed in the top 10 in their respective categories.

Being a Best Place to Work winner means something. While it feels good to receive an award and be recognized, what’s even better are the results that benefit all stakeholders.

Most obviously (it’s right there in the title), Best Places to Work organizations have happier, more engaged employees who feel a real sense of belonging. Where there is more engagement and belonging, there tends to be less turnover. This leads to more stability for the staff and makes their job easier.

When employees stay, their organizations benefit. With better retention rates comes less variance and more consistency. This manifests in good clinical outcomes.

All of which leads to the most important point: Patients benefit. It just makes good sense that a stable, engaged, and happy workforce can provide better patient care. And to complete the circle, when patients have a better experience, employees have a better experience. It all works together.

When we look at all three of our Best Places to Work partners, we notice they have several things in common:

  1. Leaders are willing to hold up the mirror.They are coachable. They know they aren’t perfect, and they don’t claim to be, but they are willing to work hard to get better and better.
  2. They invest in development. Research shows that employees, especially Gen Zers and Millennials, are more likely to stay in a position when they feel their skill building and career development are prioritized. And we know that well-trained leaders run better organizations.
  3. They are intentional about culture building. They know belonging, engagement, and employee well-being don’t just happen. They’re byproducts of a good culture. And that culture must be deliberately cultivated, maintained, and protected. This means putting time, energy, and resources behind it.

We feel fortunate to get to work with such outstanding organizations. There is so much we can learn from them and share with others. Let’s never stop striving to get better and better.
